While Battlefield V has been available since November 9 (for Origin Access Premier subscribers) and November 20 for the majority of players, Firestorm, the game's battle royale mode, won't be playable until March 25. However, EA and DICE have revealed a lot of information about BFV's BR which will be developed by Criterion Games.
When will we be able to play Firestorm? How many players will be on the map? Will the vehicles be available? All the info in our recap on Firestorm.
A release date for Firestorm?
EA warned at E3 2018 that Firestorm would not be available when BF V was released. However, the developers have confirmed that the Battle Royale will finally be playable on March 25.
A circle of fire will act as a "storm".
Called "Trial by Fire", this third Chapter should arrive almost 6 months after the release of Battlefield V, since the official announcement mentions "after March" (source in English) for its availability.
How many players?
At the moment, EA has announced that 64 players will compete on the map. At this level, Firestorm seems to stand out from other Battle Royales by only having a 4-player squad mode since the developers mention the presence of 16 squads and regularly talk about teamwork. We have no official information about the presence of a solo or duo mode.
Map size and destruction
The first map is called Halvøy, although it's not yet known if Battlefield V will have multiple maps for its BR. For more info on the map, head over to our Halvøy details article.
From the first official images of the game, the destruction aspect of the sets has been at the center of marketing for Firestorm. Since EA has confirmed that it will be possible to destroy the elements of the decor of the map.
The official presentation of Firestorm
Also according to EA and DICE, Halvøy (Firestorm's map) will be the largest map in the history of Battlefield, an FPS known for particularly large play areas.
Vehicles or no vehicles?
As the Battlefield saga is known for the presence of many vehicles, Firestorm had to include some. A priori, players will be able to use light vehicles to move around (jeep, motorcycle) but also tanks by taking objectives on the map.
A Battle Royale with objectives
Besides the destruction aspect, Firestorm could find its audience through the incorporation of objectives on the map (random and regular) allowing players to obtain loots or even vehicles by controlling a position.
We are now waiting to be able to test Firestorm on March 25 in order to be able to analyze the quality of the Battle Royale mode of this new Battlefield.
