The Lantern Festival is the big event of Genshin Impact version 1.3. Many activities are to be done, especially with the Mechanical Theater, and several rewards can be obtained during this festival, including a free 4-star character thanks to the “By your side” event. Here's how to unlock it.
How to unlock the free character?
To access this free character, you will first need to unlock Festival of Lights. We explain the procedure to follow in our dedicated guide, which goes over the conditions to be met to have access to the festivities.
Afterwards, you will have to complete the quest "Mechanical Theater in Liyue" in order to unlock access to the game mode of the mechanical theater. Completing challenges in this special game mode will earn you Talismans of Peace, which you can spend in the Lantern Market. Consult our guide dedicated to the Clockwork Theater to learn more about this game mode.
But you can also access the “By your side” event, accessible from the main Lantern Festival menu (Triangle button on PS4). You will then have the choice between six characters and you can obtain one of them in exchange for 1 talismans of peace, only after reaching the Festive Fever level "An Ocean of Lanterns".
Which character to choose?
The characters featured in this event are all from Liyue, to coincide with the celebration of the festival. We then have the choice between the following characters:
- Xiangling
- xinyan
- Beidou
- ningguang
- Xing Qiu
- chongyun
You can check their profile or skills if you are not sure which one to choose. There are obviously no right answers on which character to choose absolutely, given that it depends on which ones you already have and your preferences. The six characters remain relatively good in any case, so there is no wrong choice.
Just remember that Xinyan and Beidou can also be obtained at this time in Xiao's banner. Also think about the Constellations to guide your choice. Ningguang and Xingqiu can get really good at a certain Constellation level, as can Chongyun who is quite friendly from level 2. But again, it depends on your needs in your current team.
