Fishing remains a primary activity in Animal Crossing New Horizons, whether to earn bells or to complete your museum. We have therefore prepared this little guide for you so that you do not miss any more fish. We also have the list of species with the conditions to catch them.
Summary
How do I get the fishing rods?
Nothing very complicated here since obtaining the blueprint of the fishing rod is a step of the tutorial of the first day. It is indeed by making a rudimentary fishing rod that Tom Nook teaches you the delicate art of crafting. And here's how to get a stronger version (like other tools) if you find your rod breaking too quickly.
How to fish in Animal Crossing New Horizons?
Once your fishing rod is equipped, just press A to cast the hook when you are near a waterhole. However, make sure that there is a shadow of fish around otherwise no one will come to bite. When there is a shadow, the goal is to drop the hook into the fish's field of vision. It is therefore necessary to aim for an area in front of the head (and therefore the wider part of the shadow).
If successful, the fish will turn to the hook and start playing with it. If not, you can press A again to take your hook back and try your luck again. When the fish is interested in you, it will feint as it approaches and teases the line. Be careful because you only have to react when you hear a big splash and the hook really sinks into the water.
It's a test of patience since the feints are numerous, but the timing to press and hold the A button when the fish really bites is more than generous enough to not have to risk being fooled by a feint.
Where to fish?
Animal Crossing New Horizons offers six different places to fish. The most obvious are the sea and the river. Moreover, little advice when you want to fish at river level, prefer to follow the south bank since the camera will allow you to better see what is happening in relation to the north bank.
The third place is the pond. It is a single point of water that has no source and does not flow anywhere. The fish found there are unique to the pond.
The other three points are more complex. Indeed, there are also fish from rivers or seas. You can therefore fish there for long minutes without finding unique species. It will therefore be necessary to persevere. The first of them is the estuary, it is the place where the river flows into the sea. Sturgeon are found there in particular.
Still on the seaside, there is also the pontoon. Each island necessarily has its wooden pontoon on one of its beaches (and we are not talking about the Airport). Here you have a chance to find for example tuna.
Finally, we have what the game calls โRiver (cliff)โ but which we will call waterfall.
Of course, we also recommend that you vary your fishing times but also the months, the weather and the size of the shadows if you want to complete the fish part of your Bรฉbรชtopรฉdie.
What are baits and how do I use them?
If you can easily cause the appearance of fish in the sea or the river by going back and forth on the shore, it is more complicated for the pond or the estuary. That's what bait is for. Dig on the beach when you see a small hole in the sand squirting out water to find a clam.
When you get your first clam, your avatar discovers the recipe for the bait. You can craft a bait out of a single clam.
To use a bait, you have to go to the edge of a water point and open your inventory. Selecting the bait will give you the option to 'Scatter Food'. Do this so that a fish immediately appears there.
